Girls Sports Camp Part 2.2

Hey, everyone!  The girls sports camp is continuing to go well.  We only have three more practices until the program comes to an end.  Below, you'll find some pictures of the events from September 27th and October 11th.  October 4th was a holiday here in Mozambique, so we didn't meet.

September 27th

Soccer Time!

There were two different teams. The group who scored the most points won.

My counterpart (the man with the hat) and another colleague facilitated fun activities

This game is called cat and mouse.  The girl in white is the cat and she has to weave in between the circle of girls to catch another girl (the mouse) who got the head start.

Here are some girls in the middle of the circle dancing to traditional songs.

More activities involving singing
Drummer boy

I love this picture!  The girls are so happy!

They are playing tug of war, but instead of two opposing teams pulling on a rope, the girls are just holding onto each other.

October 11th

Stretch time!

Here's Naira practicing her lay-up shot

Defense! Defense! Defense!

Tania (left) teaching one of the girls from the primary school how to shoot a basketball

It's break time and I'm playing the ukulele and singing with the girls

Now the girls have broken off into groups to practice volleyball

Bete (standing up) is asking the girls true or false questions about HIV/ AIDS

That's all for now.  Stay tuned for more! Obrigada!

Ruben Zacarias

This past weekend, some volunteers and I went to visit a volunteer in the Zambezia province named Eric.  He introduced us to his 18-year-old artist friend named Ruben Zacarias.

I ended up buy three paintings from him and he and his brother sold about 30 others from the volunteers visiting his community.  It was such an honor to meet such a talented young artist.

Don't you love the colors? He knows which colors work well together.

Impressive!

Wow! Just...Wow!

As an aspiring artist myself, I find inspiration in Ruben's extraordinary work.  Eric's been helping Ruben showcase his abstract art on a website.  Please take a look at it here: RubensArt

Stay tuned to this kid's work.  It's only going to get better and better!
